Skier Killed By Avalanche In Berchtesgaden, Germany On Sunday

According to BGK, a female skier was killed in an avalanche on Kehlstein Mountain, Germany on Sunday, November 19th, 2017. A 50-year-old female skier was touring near the town of Berchtesgaden, when she came into a steep groove in the mountain, where she was struck by an avalanche.

The avalanche came down from a steep couloir and struck the woman at an elevation of 1630m or 5,348ft. She was carried down the mountain 50m until she fell another 100m down a steep, rocky face. The woman started at the local car park and was headed for the peak of Kehlstein Mountain.

At the time of the incident, she was alone, but other ski tourers in the area witnessed it and immediately called for Mountain Rescue. According to local authorities, there’s no possible way that she triggered the avalanche, she just happened to be in the path of it. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.
