Skier Killed in Avalanche Near Anchorage, Alaska Yesterday | 36th Avy Death in USA This Season

According to the Alaska State Troopers, a 40-year-old female skier was killed in an avalanche near Palmer, Alaska yesterday, March 27th, 2021.

Palmer is about 45 minutes north of Anchorage, AK

This was the 36th avalanche fatality this season in the USA.

The USA averages 27 avalanche fatalities per season.

This was the 4th avalanche death in Alaska this season.

On February 2, 2021, three climbers were killed in an avalanche in the Chugach State Park.

On 3/27/21 at approximately 1411 hours AST received a report of an avalanche near Matanuska Glacier, between Palmer and Glennallen.  One skier, identified as Erin Lee, age 40, of Fairbanks, was transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital via helicopter where she was pronounced deceased.  Next of kin have been notified.
