Renowned professional skier Michelle Parker has shared some deeply personal news with her community, announcing that she and partner Aaron Blatt are expecting their first child. In a heartfelt message shared to social media on Tuesday, April 21, Parker described the past few months as an emotional journey that coincided with a significant family loss.
“I didn’t really feel authentic to myself until I could tell people that I am pregnant,” Parker shared, revealing that she discovered the news just three days before her father’s memorial. “It’s been emotional in all of the ways, a full spectrum. I feel like it was his gift to us.”
The transition into pregnancy has brought a new rhythm to the high-energy athlete’s life. Parker noted that she has faced significant fatigue, mitigated by daily trail time with her dog, Cardi, and a newfound appetite. “I was ravenous for food and took more naps than I ever have,” she said. “Lots of 3 a.m. cereal snack time too.”
As a veteran of the ski industry, 39-year-old Parker is looking toward other mother-athletes as a source of inspiration for this next chapter. She expressed a deep admiration for women who return to their sports after childbirth, seeing “strength, beauty, and grace in the ways that they live and return to sport with a little at their side.” Parker noted that her career has always been defined by evolution, and she views this journey as a natural extension of that growth.
Currently at 19 weeks, Parker and Blatt have decided to keep the baby’s gender a surprise. She shared that “this little mango” has developed ears and is starting to hear, prompted by daily musical serenades from Blatt.
Parker, who has navigated six knee surgeries throughout her career, credits those past recoveries with helping her embrace the slower pace of pregnancy. “I think having gone through 6 knee surgeries in the past has helped me slow down with acceptance knowing that it is only temporary and this moment is precious,” she explained.
While she plans to embark on a human-powered ski trip in the near future as her energy returns, Parker is maintaining a flexible mindset. “I’ll have no expectations of myself as this is truly a wild process!” Above all, she expressed joy in the connection the news has fostered within her family, noting that seeing the excitement in her mother’s eyes “makes my heart sing.”
