Slew of Hit-and-Runs in European Alps Continues as German Skier Sustains Injuries After Collision With Snowboarder at Austrian Ski Resort

A 55-year-old German skier sustained a serious collarbone injury following a collision with an unidentified snowboarder on February 10, 2025, in the Skijuwel Alpbachtal Wildschรถnau ski area in Austria. The accident occurred around 11:50 a.m. on red slope No. 13, known as โ€œWurmegg Abfahrt,โ€ approximately 250 meters (820 feet) above the mid-station of the connecting gondolas Verbindungsbahn I and II.

Both individuals fell as a result of the crash. However, after a brief verbal exchange, the snowboarder continued down the slope without providing personal details, leaving the injured skier behind. The skier received initial medical assistance from the slope rescue team before making her way to a doctorโ€™s office in the valley, where she was diagnosed with a serious collarbone injury.

Authorities are now searching for the snowboarder, described as a woman around 20 years old, of normal stature, with long dark hair braided into a single plait. She was wearing a dark top and was riding a dark snowboard with white spots. Witnesses, as well as the snowboarder herself, are urged to contact the Kramsach Police Department at +43 59133 7213.

Skijuwel Alpbachtal Wildschรถnau, located in the Austrian Tyrol region, is a popular resort known for its 113 kilometers (70 miles) of groomed slopes and diverse terrain, catering to skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The Wurmegg Abfahrt, a red-marked intermediate slope, offers a scenic yet challenging descent through the resortโ€™s alpine landscape. It terminates at the mid-station of the Verbindungsbahn I and II gondolas which were installed in 2012 to connect Alpbachtal and Wildschรถnau. The ski area is spread out across four separate mountains.

Under Austrian law and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) rules, any person involved in a ski accident is required to stop and provide assistance, including sharing identification details if requested. Fleeing the scene of a collision could result in legal consequences, including fines and potential criminal charges.ย Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are urging snowsport enthusiasts to ensure accountability and safety on the slopes. There have been numerous cases of hit-and-runs reported this season in the European Alps.
