More than a month earlier than normal, 10 cm (4 inches) of snow have dropped in Australian ski resorts on May 12, 2021, with greater totals falling at higher elevations. Big snowfall in mid-May is rare for the region. The ski season typically starts in the beginning of June.
Temperatures in the Snowy Mountains dropped to 32ºF on Tuesday night, allowing snow to fall through the night across the snowy mountains of New South Wales.

Thredbo and Perisher both reported 10 cm (4 inches) at the base.
