“A few more snow and rain showers are expected in the mountains around Lake Tahoe through this afternoon, with a better chance of snow showers Sunday and Sunday night which could even reach down to near lake level in the Tahoe basin!“- NOAA Reno, NV today

“Dress accordingly for these weather conditions (not the calendar!) if planning outdoor activities Sunday. An unusually cold low pressure system will move into northern California and western Nevada on Sunday. This will bring rain and snow showers with possible isolated thunderstorms to the region. Snow accumulations will generally be limited to higher elevations of the northern Sierra where a couple of inches are possible, but a light dusting of snow may occur down to near lake level in the Tahoe basin, and in northeast California above 5500 feet by Sunday night. Temperatures will only reach the 50s to lower 60s across western Nevada on Sunday, and mid-40s to lower 50s near the Sierra, about 20-25 degrees below average for early-mid June. Brisk west to northwest wind gusts of 30-40 mph will make it feel even colder.” – NOAA Reno, NV today

“Snow in June! This image taken shortly before noon from the UNR Seismological Lab web camera appeared to show a mix of light rain, snow and fog on the top of Slide Mountain (elevation 9650 feet).” – NOAA, today

In addition to Sunday’s snow, NOAA is forecasting widespread snow in the Northern Rockies of Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana on Tuesday.
