Snow Park NZ has announced that they will not be opening in this Southern Winter.

This is big news as Snow Park NZ is the best park in the Southern Hemisphere and is where all of the best park skiing edits come from in the summer.  This place is the premier park and pipe venue in the South the biggest and baddest features.

Why are they closing?  Not enough money.  It sounds like it’s not working financially and they need to take a summer off to figure out how to make it work again.

“This is one of the hardest decisions I have had to make, with the level of functioning assets [ie money], I know we cannot provide the World Class terrain we have become known for.” – Sam Lee, Snow Park NZ General Manager

Snow Park NZ still might have a little action this year and we hope they do.  But they won’t be open to the public.

The good news is that they are trying to regroup and reopen next summer:

“While this is bad news for the 2013 winter, its about the long term success of the brand, venue and assets. As a family we are passionate about the industry and Snow Park, but we have to be socially and fiscally responsible to our customers and our partners.” – Sam Lee

Snow Park NZ is a staple of the “summer” ski season.  We wish them the best and hope they can come back strong next winter.

  1. Thats a bummer. But all good NZ still has plenty to offer for your SH winter park fix. The parks at Remarks and Cardies are just as good if not better than Snow Park, I think.

  2. Terrible news for New Zealand. This place is epic and now is taken off the map. We don’t have a lot of world class parks here. We need snow park.
