Report from December 8, 2025
Yesterday was the first ski day of my 25th full northern hemisphere ski season!
Damn, I’m getting old…
I’ve also done 15 full southern hemisphere winters, but that’s a story for another time.

I decided to roll up to the Gadzoom chairlift at Snowbird at 8:30 am yesterday.
I was the only non-old-time local there early, waiting for the chair to open.
They joked and laughed and greeted each other and told stories of winters old.

I listened and gleaned what I could.
I hadn’t skied Snowbird since 2018, and I was stoked to be working with and skiing at The Bird once again.
The first runs were fast, firm, and dark.

The skiing actually improved as the slopes got cut up by skiers and riders and the light began to pour into the canyon.
Our editor-in-chief, Martin, joined me, and we goofed off laping Gadzoom for hours.
Around noon thirty, we met up with Jake, Snowbird’s comms and social media guru, and on our second lap with him, I told him I had to bail to hit a 2 pm PRP injection appointment in SLC.

He said, “No, you’re not, the tram is about to open…”
We scrambled to the tram deck as I called my doctor’s office to reschedule the appointment for next week.
The first tram of the year was lovely, with very few people and smiles all around.

We cranked 3 tram laps before I was just too tired to ski anymore at 3:30 p.m.
An amazing day at one of the best freeride ski resorts in North America.
Thanks, Utah!
