A round of snow tapers off early this week, but a more significant storm system takes shape Wednesday night through Saturday, favoring southwestern Colorado with higher totals and spreading moderate snow elsewhere. Overall, expect decent snow quality across many resorts given moderate to occasionally higher snow-to-liquid ratios, along with below-normal temperatures persisting into the weekend and beyond.
Lingering snow into Tuesday Evening. Light to moderate snowfall continues into Tuesday afternoon, primarily affecting central and southern Colorado peaks. The heaviest accumulations early in the day focus on higher passes in the southwest, where snow levels hover near the mid-elevations. Gusty winds in southwestern valleys could impact upper mountain experiences, but conditions should gradually improve by late afternoon.
Wednesday NightโThursday Storm. Another round of precipitation sets in Wednesday night, initially hitting the western slopes before spilling into the central and southern mountains. Southern ranges stand to benefit the most, with the potential for a foot or more by Thursday night in spots. Snow levels may vary, and the storm will sometimes feature wet, heavier snow. However, snow-to-liquid ratios in many areas should remain within the moderate (9โ14:1) to occasionally higher (14+:1) range, delivering a mix of denser base-building snow and lighter powder up high.
FridayโSaturday Wave. Snowfall persists into Friday and Saturday across parts of the central and southern mountains, though amounts may be lighter outside favored southwestern zones. Still, fresh inches are on tap for many central resorts, with temperatures trending 5โ10 degrees below normal for a nice finish to the week. Any additional accumulations should maintain generally fair to good snow quality, thanks to continued cooler air filtering in through the weekend.
Extended Outlook. Looking into next week, below-normal temperatures are expected to continue, and additional storm systems are likely to track through the region. Above-average precipitation signals remain in the West, keeping Colorado in the mix for further snowfall opportunities. This pattern should preserve solid mid-March conditions at most resorts, with the promise of further powder potential.
