An active week lies ahead, with multiple waves of snowfall favoring the southern and central mountains for the biggest totals. Warmer air creeps into some areas early in the week, but colder conditions and widespread snow will quickly return. The second half of the week will feature a potent storm system delivering significant mountain snowfall, especially across southern Colorado. Occasional gusty winds and low snow levels will keep conditions wintry right through the weekend.

Light snow showers will linger across parts of the southern and central mountains through Monday. Any accumulations with this first, weaker wave will be on the lower side, generally under a couple of inches, as moisture remains limited. Farther north, conditions stay relatively quiet initially, with only spotty flurries or brief showers around ridgelines. Snow levels hover low enough for snow over all elevations, but overall impacts remain minimal.

A colder and more organized system pushes in late Tuesday into Wednesday. This wave will bring widespread snow across the state, favoring the central and southern Divide ranges. Snow levels will be near valley floors with modest totals, but the best accumulation is likely at higher elevations. Expect brisk winds at upper elevations, creating periods of reduced visibility on exposed ridges. This system gradually tapers off by Wednesday evening, leaving behind seasonably cold temperatures.

The most significant storm of the week arrives Thursday night and persists into Saturday. Deep moisture from the southwest combines with strong energy aloft, bringing heavy snow to many mountain areas. Southern resorts appear primed for the greatest accumulations, with central mountains also benefiting from periods of intense snowfall. Stronger winds will be likely at times, so prepare for wind-affected conditions in exposed terrain. Looking toward the weekendโ€™s close, a minor wave may bring a few extra inches on Sunday, and the broader pattern remains unsettled into the following week.
