A potent string of disturbances will target the Northeast,ย bringingย two noteworthy snowfall events and periods of gusty winds through the weekend. Temperatures will hover near freezing or just below freezing at times, creating a wintry mix in some areas. Overall, the pattern remains active into next week, with below-normal temperatures and additional light snow potential by midweek.

The first wave arrives Thursday, bringing a burst of snow that transitions to a wintry mix in the afternoon. Early on, moderate snowfall rates will favor northern areas, though sleet and a glaze of ice remain likely for much of the region. Temperatures briefly climb near or above freezing in valleys, but higher elevations will stay colder, leading to continued mixed precipitation into the evening.

Aย passing cold front ushers in sharply colder air and gusty west-northwest winds by Friday. Periods of lake-enhanced or upslope snow showers will focus on the higher terrain of New York into northern New England, with pockets of quick accumulations possible. Blustery conditions with gusts approaching 35โ€“45 mph may impact upper mountain lifts, especially along exposed ridgelines.

Saturday night into Sunday brings a more widespread storm as another system tracks across the area. Many mountains should see moderate accumulations in the 3-9 inch range. In the extended range, a broad trough of colder-than-normal air may linger, maintaining unsettled conditions into early next week with the potential for additional light snowfall or a more organized system heading toward midweek (Tuesday/Wednesday).
