A potent midweek system will drop moderate snow totals in the northern and central mountains tonight into Thursday before a broad ridge brings several days of mainly dry, milder weather. Expect a quick-hitting shot of fresh powder followed by a significant warming trend heading into the weekend and early next week.

The Wednesday Nightโ€“Thursday Storm will deliver a burst of mountain snowfall. Light snowfall begins late Wednesday evening and quickly becomes more widespread overnight. Snow levels will start out near or just above some valley floors, but cooler air rapidly lowers snow lines by early Thursday. Mountain areas can see moderate accumulations, with particularly efficient snowfall in the Cottonwoods and the central Wasatch. Valleys may briefly mix with rain, though most spots transition to snow early Thursday, providing a fresh coating in time for morning turns.

High pressure takes the reins Thursday night through much of the weekend. Skies clear and drier conditions prevail, with temperatures steadily climbing each day. Winds generally remain light, so expect pleasant weather for resort skiing, though any new snowfall will get tracked out quickly. Another weak wave could brush the northern mountains around Sunday or Monday, but confidence is low that it will yield notable precipitation. Most places will see little to no snow from that minor disturbance.

Looking further ahead, the medium- and long-range outlook suggests an extended period of relatively mild and dry conditions. Above-normal temperatures are favored going into the start of next week, with only a slight chance for light precipitation in the far north if the ridge flattens. Ensemble trends hint that a more active pattern may eventually develop late in the month or early March, although forecasts remain uncertain. In the meantime, enjoy the midweek fresh snow before spring-like conditions return.
