This New Zealand snow forecast keeps the ongoing episode alive, but the meaningful accumulation has shifted later and refocused on Canterbury. Since the previous update, the main onset has moved about two days later, while Mt. Hutt and Porters have emerged as the leaders with 29-39 cm and 24-32 cm from Sunday into Monday. A weaker and wetter Ruapehu phase follows.

Snow intensifies across the Mackenzie Basin and Canterbury on Sunday morning, peaks Sunday afternoon and evening, and eases around midday Monday. The guidance clusters tightly around that timing, although the wetter solutions still produce substantially more in Canterbury than the driest one. Snow levels start near 1,500-1,750 meters around Porters and Mt. Hutt, making the initial snow dense and allowing mixed precipitation near the lowest terrain, before dropping below 1,000 meters Sunday night. Falling temperatures then improve the snow from dense to moderate quality. Gusts near 70-90 kilometers per hour before the heavier snow could affect operations. Porters is currently limited to its carpet and platter after wind closed the chair, while Ohau reports closed today.

The weakening northern part reaches Ruapehu on Monday and trails into Tuesday. Snow levels initially sit near 1,800-2,000 meters, favoring very dense upper-mountain snow and rain or mixed precipitation lower down, before falling toward 1,500-1,700 meters. Turoa picks up 6-9 cm, with 4-6 cm at Whakapapa. Both have lift-served operations today, but Monday gusts around 100 kilometers per hour could disrupt upper-mountain access.

A colder follow-up system remains plausible from Wednesday into Friday, but its placement is not settled enough for committed amounts. Most guidance reloads the Southern Lakes and Ruapehu, while Canterbury ranges from a minor addition to another notable round. Lower snow levels would improve quality and preservation, although strong wind remains a concern.
