A promising week for Utah skiers with two potent storm cycles delivering quality snowfall. The action starts Sunday night into Tuesday, with significant accumulations in the southern and central mountains and decent snowfall in the Wasatch. Another solid storm moves in midweek, bringing even deeper accumulations and high-quality snow. Conditions look excellent, particularly in the Cottonwoods, Eagle Point, and the high-elevation Wasatch resorts, with moderate snow levels dropping substantially after each front, ensuring widespread mountain snowfall. The longer-range forecast points to continued active and snowy conditions through mid-March.
Sunday NightโTuesday Storm
The first significant storm begins Sunday night as an upper-level trough moves into the region, initially favoring southern Utah before spreading northward overnight. Precipitation will quickly intensify into Monday, with snow levels starting above 7,000 feet Sunday night, dropping to around 5000 feet by Monday evening as colder air works in. Expect periods of moderate to occasionally heavy snow, especially at Eagle Point, Alta/Snowbird, and Solitude/Brighton. Snow quality will be excellent, particularly at Eagle Point with high snow-to-liquid ratios (SLRs) between 14-16:1, offering very light, fluffy snow ideal for powder skiing. The Wasatch will see similarly good quality snow, generally in the 13-14:1 range. Total accumulations through Tuesday night range from 6-10 inches in southern and central mountains and about 4-9 inches in the northern Wasatch.
WednesdayโFriday Storm
Following a short lull, a more robust and colder system arrives Wednesday, initially starting with light snowfall Wednesday afternoon before intensifying overnight into Thursday. The Cottonwoods, Eagle Point, and Powder Mountain are particularly favored by this storm due to northwest flow, resulting in solid upslope-enhanced snowfall. Snowfall peaks Wednesday night into Thursday, with snow levels consistently below 5,000 feet, ensuring snow at all mountain elevations. Snow quality progressively improves throughout the event, starting moderate (SLRs around 11-12:1) and becoming notably better by Thursday night into Friday (SLRs 13-16:1). Storm totals through Friday should reach around 7-16 inches in the Cottonwoods and Eagle Point, 5-12 inches for Powder Mountain, and slightly less but still meaningful accumulations around Park City and Beaver Mountain.
Extended Forecast
Looking further ahead, the active pattern continues, as another substantial trough is expected to impact Utah by the following weekend and beyond, bringing additional snow opportunities. With troughing favored across the West Coast extending inland through mid-March, conditions look promising for continued snowfall across Utah ski resorts, especially in the Wasatch Range and higher terrain of southern Utah. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively cold, maintaining good snow quality and supporting ongoing accumulations.
