A series of storms will deliver notable snowfall across Utahโ€™s mountains over the coming week, interspersed with a brief weekend lull. Expect periods of strong accumulations from Thursday into Friday, a break on Saturday and Sunday, then more snow early next week with yet another system looming by midweek.

Thursdayโ€™s storm is dumping moderate to heavy snowfall across the mountains, with snow levels initially around 6,000โ€“6,500 feet. As the system unfolds, colder air will arrive, driving snow levels down to many valley floors by late Thursday afternoon. This will allow several inches of new snow even at lower elevations, while upper elevations see more robust totals. Snow quality will be fairly good, with snow-to-liquid ratios (SLRs) generally near or above 10:1, climbing to the mid-teens by Thursday night. By Friday morning, snowfall will still be ongoing in the higher terrain, tapering off through the afternoon.

The weekend will bring a welcome break on Saturday and Sunday, along with gradually warming conditions. Temperatures should remain on the cooler side Saturday but moderate by Sunday. Although no new snow is expected, the recent accumulations will settle under milder air, which could slightly affect snow quality at lower elevations. Overall, it should be a pleasant couple of days for spring-like turns before the pattern becomes active again.

The next system arrives Monday night into Tuesday, focusing its heaviest snowfall on southern Utahโ€™s mountains. Snow levels look to hover around 5,500 feet initially, which still keeps many resorts in the snow zone. SLRs in this timeframe appear closer to the 8โ€“12:1 range, so expect moderately dense powder, especially in southern areas. Northern Utah mountains should also pick up a few inches, though accumulations there seem more modest compared to the south. By midweek, attention turns to an additional storm slated to impact the area starting Wednesday, potentially extending into late week. Cold temperatures and a continuing active pattern favor additional snowfall in Utahโ€™s mountains, aligning with the broader outlook that points to below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation extending beyond the seven-day window.
