An Alberta man has died and another was uninjured after two snowmobiles collided on Boulder Mountain near Revelstoke on Friday, April 20, reports the Revelstoke Mountaineer.

Revelstoke RCMP says they were notified of the incident at about 11:30 am on Friday, April 20. In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Thomas Blakney said one of the snowmobiles was descending down the mountain when another snowmobile crossed in front of it, leading to the collision on an off-trail, open area on the mountain.

“This is a very rare occurrence and it’s important to watch out for other riders,” said Cpl. Thomas Blakney.

Both of the men involved in the collision are adult males from Alberta. One of the snowmobilers was not injured, but unfortunately the other died at the scene. Police say that alcohol and drugs “do not appear to be a factor” and weather conditions were good at the time.

The Revelstoke RCMP, Revelstoke Search, and Rescue and the BC Ambulance Service responded to the incident. Revelstoke RCMP says they are not releasing further details on the incident pending notification of next of kin.

Boulder Mountain is a popular snowmobiling area located on the outskirts of Revelstoke. The snowmobiling area has groomed trails leading up to alpine sledding areas.
