A snowmobiler was killed Wednesday afternoon in an avalanche in Baker Creek north of Ketchum, according to a Facebook post from the Sawtooth Avalanche Center.
Two snowmobilers were caught in the avalanche, the Avalanche Center said. One of the snowmobilers was able to escape the avalanche and later found his riding partner buried in the snow. The surviving rider cleared the snow off his partner’s face, but neither he nor first responders were able to revive the buried person, reports the Idaho Mountain Express.
According to the Sawtooth Avalanche Center, the two snowmobilers were riding in the Baker Creek drainage west of Ketchum when they were caught in the slide.
The fatality brings the total of avalanche related deaths in the USA to nine for this winter season.
