Last night, Truckee Police Officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Floriston Court and Highland Avenue in the Olympic Heights subdivision. Officers discovered the driver, 34-year-old Gayden Rosales of Truckee, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Rosales told first responders he was shot by 45-year-old Michael Woll in front of a residence on Highland Ave. Officers went to Woll’s home but did not locate him. Instead, Woll turned himself in at the Nevada County Sherriff’s Office substation.

Rosales told investigators he and Woll got into a dispute over social media, which escalated to an in-person contact that ultimately led to the shooting. Several search warrants were served, and investigators believe they have recovered the firearm used in the shooting. Rosales received a life-threatening injury but is considered to be in stable condition. Woll was booked at the Nevada County Jail in Truckee for Assault With a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Threats. His bail was set at $50,000. At this point in the investigation, we are confident this was an isolated incident, and there is no safety threat to the public.
