Solo Snowboarder Killed in Avalanche Near Jackson Hole, WY Today

A 30-year-old snowboarder was killed in an avalanche on Pyramid Peak (southeast of Rendezvous Peak) near Jackson Hole today.  Jed Foster was a resident of Jackson, WY and originally from Indiana.

A witness to the avalanche called authorities at 1pm today.  Teton Country Search & Rescue send a helicopter according to Sargent Matt Carr.

From the air the rescuers saw a snowboard at the bottom of the avalanche.  Two rescuers were dropped off at the scene and quickly found Jed still attached to the snowboard they saw from the air.

Rescuers reported that the avalanche carried Jed “some distance” over “rocky terrain” according to Sargent Matt Carr.

Avalanche danger was rated at “Considerable” (3 out 5) today, the rating that most people die under.
