Spring Skiing – Alpine Meadows Closing Weekend Report

It was a bittersweet ending to a season with many ups and downs. Alpine Meadows was open for their final weekend of operations, running Roundhouse and Summit chairs. Sadly, Summit never opened on Sunday due to high winds at the top of Alpine. The few inches of snow that fell overnight are still waiting to be shredded at the top of Summit chair by whoever is willing to work for it.

Friday and Saturday were nice and soft all day with a mix of slick corn snow and sticky mashed potatoes. Sunday was a bit different as we got blindsided by a quick and dirty snowstorm Saturday afternoon that left a few inches of fresh at the top of Alpine (which we couldn’t access…). A cold Saturday night gave us some nice groomers on Sunday and dust on icy bumps in the morning. It didn’t really start to get soft off-piste until about noon, at which point they decided to extend lift operations by an hour to 2pm. Thanks Alpine!

Now that Tahoe is dunzo, Mammoth is our next closest option… then Utah, who still seems to be getting snow. Spring roadie anyone?

You got that right, Unfortunately some genius told the patrollers to remove safety
pads from Summit chair towers Sunday AM so they could not them run Summit
chair even if they wanted to.

Roundhouse lift was such a joke we (& most others) quit early.

  2. If this is where the soul of skiing lives, they would have stayed open until 4. Wind died right around noon.

  3. Nice post as always. A tough year for sure but next year will make this all a distant memory.
