April at Squaw Valley, CA was pretty good, right? We had a few powder days, snowfall was around average, we were loving the fact that sunny spring skiing was here and all that comes with it. And then BOOM, like a mid-February storm, winter returned to the ‘Spring Skiing Capital’ in May!

In April, Squaw Valley saw 24″ of fresh snow. So far already in May they have seen 28″, and there’s still over a week to go! That’s double the amount of snow in May during the epic 2016/17 season and the most in recent history.

2012/13 – April – 10″ / May 0″
2013/14 – April – 54″ / May 0″
2014/15 – April – 35″ / May 7″
2015/16 – April – 25″ / May 7″
2016/17 – April – 57″ / May 14″
2017/18 – April – 22″ / May 1″
2018/19 – April – 24″ / May 28″

It’s not just the snowfall totals, it feels like mid-winter again. Winter Weather Advisory and cold temperatures, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be right now. Bring it on!

So far this season, Squaw Valley has seen a massive 710″ of snowfall, the most snow in North America, and is sitting on a 182″ base. The current season is third only to 2016/17 (728″) and 2010/11 (810″). Could a couple more storms see 2018/19 jump into second spot?
