Squaw Valley, CA Conditions Report: Phenomenal April Powder Day

Today was a phenomenal powder day at Squaw Valley, USA.

Squaw just recored 25″ of new snow on the upper mountain in the past 48 hours and 10″ on the lower mountain.

The snow was creamy, responsive, a bit wind pressed, and perfect.  The snow was especially dreamy the snow on the upper mountain today.  Granite was unreal…

We started the day on KT-22 and the skiing was superb.  We cranked 5 or so laps on KT before heading up the tram to Broken Arrow where we skied Deadman’s Chute on our way to Tower One, which felt like backcountry skiing.  So good…

Another lap on KT before Zach the Liftie Badass told us Granite was gonna open and we rallied up the Funitel and on up to Granite.  The snow up on Granite was – to me- the perfect snow.  We jumped and turned and hucked and hooted on Granite until 2:30pm when we got tired and went home.

The weather broke a bit in the morning with the occasional sun rays poking through.  The weather stayed pretty nice until about 11am when it started snowing again.  Wind wasn’t too bad all day and temps stayed plenty cold.  The high at the top of the mountain was only 20ºF.

BIG THANKS TO SQUAW VALLEY SKI PATROL for getting so much great terrain open, for letting us go wild, and for keeping us safe.
