Report from January 28, 2021

Today was a wild one at Squaw Valley, CA.

22″ of new snow overnight and a lot of wind gave patrol all they could handle.

Avalanche danger was rated as EXTREME today.

Squaw Patrol did their super human work and got the KT-22 open safely at about 10:30am today.

Thank you Squaw Patrol!

Our first run was simply splendiferous…

Good Fun Chute. image: snowbrains

Shallow and rock in the chute, then a clean air that was quite a bit bigger than planned on to perfect, deep, wind-buffed turns of happiness.

After that we skied pow, dropped cliffs, and even threw a couple of flips.

Squaw was on fire today and it seemed that everyone was happy.

Even the Olympic Lady chair opened today, which is a rarity (thanks, Squaw!).

The big storm is raging on and it snowed over a foot whilst we were skiing today.

The forecast for this evening and tonight for another foot plus.

We simply cannot wait for tomorrow!

  1. I have never seen Olympic Lady running. That should be the headline over the how-ever-many feet of new snow. Also, is that a van at the bottom of your stairs?

    1. Ah, good call. I’ll add in that Oly Lady was running. That is a Chevy Tahoe at the bottom of the stairs. Thanks
