Squaw Valley Fingers Race April 17th, 2006

And the winner is…  Scott Gaffney.  Yep, that first guy ripping down like he owns the place is Scott. He pretty much does own the place.  Scott still skis this hard and if you’re in a Fingers Race, keep an look out over your shoulder for this guy.

2006 was an incredible year at Squaw.  The mountain got pummeled with snow all season and things filled in in ways that we’ve only seen that year.  The chimney was a bowl with snow wall to wall.  Schmidiots was a mellow snow ramp with no air.  Lines went down that year that likely haven’t ever gone down again.

No B.S. That’s the Chimney in 2006.

Stuff just filled in that doesn’t ever fill in.  Robb Gaffney even had to write a new Squallywood book just to document all the new lines that occurred in 2006.

As far as we know, the biggest best years in recent history were 1999, 2006, and 2011.  Anyone wanna put any money on 2014?  Remember when it used to snow at Squaw?  Yeah, those were the days, huh?

Lets give a shout out to Adventure Film Works who captured 2006 in their movie “Hustle & Snow” which was selected by the Banff Film Festival that same year.

  1. I love watching that video and totally remember that day. Jules killed it off the Palisades. RIP Miles’ red jacket and pants with duct tape at the ankles

  2. ahhhh, I remember it like it was yesterday except this season almost made me forget but not quite.

  3. Scott is da man. I’m in awe.

Then he came up with GNAR POINTS in his SquallyWood books.

Skiing the fingers BN is likely max Gnar Points !!

Got an opinion? Let us know...
