With $6,000, someone could pay for several months’ worth of rent, a new hot tub, a cross country vacation, or even the world’s most expensive hamburger. Dubbed “The Golden Boy,” this gold-coated burger has recently overtaken the world record for the most expensive of its kind. Previously, the burger that held this record was a 777lb burger out of Juicys Outlaw Grill in Corvallis, Oregon.
De Daltons, a high-end restaurant outside of Amsterdam in The Netherlands, just started selling The Golden Boy in the summer of 2021. Robbert Jan de Veen, the owner of De Daltons, stated, “I decided to create the world’s most expensive burger and donate the entire income to charity to do good for the society.” Jan de Veen recognized that the food-service industry hit a rough patch over the COVID-19 pandemic and wanted to make a difference, donating all of the proceeds from this world record burger to feed hungry children.
The Golden Boy features handmade, pretzel-style buns that are caked in gold as well as some of the world’s most tender A5 Waygu meat. The ingredients of this masterpiece are unique, yet flow together seamlessly:

The final cost of the burger runs $5,964 and has only been sold once thus far “to Netherlands-based conglomerate Remia International on June 28.” The proceeds from this single sale allowed Jan de Veen to purchase 1,000 meals for children in need. Robbert Jan de Veen and his restaurant De Daltons are role models within the food industry and are showcasing to other restaurants how they can leave a positive impact on their community.
The Golden Boy is no average burger. Reportedly, it took Jan de Veen “over five months to decide on its ingredients and find the right combination to craft the perfect recipe,” and takes him around nine hours to perfectly prepare, cook, and have ready for the table. The Golden Boy is not only the world’s most expensive burger, but it is an experience, a story, and a true work of art. “Your fingers will be golden by the time you finish“.
