The report says the victim was saved when someone at the lifeguard stand heard yelling for help.

West Hawaii Batt. Chief John Whiteman told CBS News, “They launched a canoe to some paddleboarders approximately 150 to 200 yards offshore. When they got on scene, they found a shark attack victim in the water and another male on a paddleboard.”

Witnesses applied tourniquets to the victim’s leg, who was helicoptered to North Hawaii Community Hospital and is currently in critical condition. The beach was reopened on Sunday.
