Why would you want to live, visit, or vacation in Squaw Valley, USA?  Mostly because the place is legendary.  The 1960 Winter Olympics created Squaw, Scott Schmidt and Warren Miller put it on the extreme skiing map, and Shane McConkey immortalized Squaw by reinventing how any mountain can be skied.

It’s the terrain of Squaw that makes us come back day after day, year after year, generation after generation.  No matter how good you are, no matter how many days you have here, there is still a line that haunts you during big Sierra storms.  “Is that line gonna fill in right tomorrow?”  “Am I ready to hit it?”

Squaw also gets the big snow with an average annual snowfall of 450-inches.  We’re off to an above average start this winter with over 100″ of snowfall before Christmas.

Squaw caters to our softer sides as well with an impressive ski school & team programs, the High Camp ice rink, mini-snowmobiles for kids, snow tubing, and a village full of shops, restaurants, bars & nightlife.

  1. not sure what this nest cabin is you speak of, but is it covered in giant corporate logos that make it so that you can’t really see outside?

  2. The author of this wonderful piece of journalism forgot to mention the new ‘Nest’ appointed funi car. A luxury cabin that deposits luxury skiers to the luxury gold coast lodge, (oops, my bad), the non-luxury, industrial-themed, top funitel terminal that is called Gold Coast.

WTF? don’t the geniuses who operate, and market Squaw, think these things through? Imagine getting sold on the ‘Nest’ cabin, paying $$omething extra, and landing in what looks like a WWII era air force hangar, slick new rubber mats and all?

Seriously,, KSL/Squaw, who’s coming up with these lame ideas?? And has Squaw’s liability mgmt team even experienced how slick the new rubber mats are at funi top when wet or with snowy ski boots, really??? Can you say “Law Suit”, after someone in the leisure class slips and blows out a knee?

So cater to the ‘lesiure’ class, get them here to $pend, and have one of the worst on mountain experiences due to the non-friendly terrain and mis-managed mountain ops. Great…..

More importantly though, how many GNAR points do you get for being the first couple ‘getting down’ in the new ‘Nest’ cabin??

Got an opinion? Let us know...
