NOAA has issued a Winter Storm Warning & a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountains of California that begins tonight and ends early Friday.  6-14″ of snowfall is forecast in this time period in the Lake Tahoe region and around 10″ of snow in the Mammoth/Yosemite region.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 3 TO 7 INCHES AT TRUCKEE AND LAKE TAHOE
  ELEVATIONS. 6 TO 14 INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS SURROUNDING LAKE
  TAHOE...WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS WEST OF HIGHWAY 89 INCLUDING

.A FAST MOVING PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA TODAY THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY WITH MODERATE TO
OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOWFALL FOR THE MOUNTAINS. THE HEAVIEST
SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT. SNOW LEVELS WILL GENERALLY BE
BETWEEN 4000 AND 5000 FEET...BUT AS LOW AS 2500 TO 3000 FEET OVER
SHASTA COUNTY. TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES IN THE MOUNTAINS ARE LIKELY SO
CARRY TIRE CHAINS AND EXTRA SUPPLIES IF HEADING TO HIGHER
