Winter returned to Sunday River, Maine, at 9 a.m. today as the Locke Triple loaded the season’s first riders, officially opening the 2025-26 ski season on Locke Mountain. “Opening day always brings a special kind of energy,” Brian Heon said, General Manager of Sunday River Resort. “The team’s been going nonstop, and it shows. There’s nothing better than hearing those snowguns and seeing guests back out on the mountain.”

Access on day one is limited to New England Passholders, Ikon Passholders, Mountain Collective, and ticket-pack holders, with daily lift tickets available starting tomorrow, November 13. Early-season services include food and beverages at Barker Lodge, the Barker Bar, and gear and tuning at Sunday River Sports and the Tune Shop in South Ridge.

Snowmaking has been in full push for the last 24 hours, with nearly 300 snowguns moving about 9,000 gallons of water per minute across multiple peaks. With cold temperatures holding, round-the-clock snowmaking will continue to expand terrain as quickly as conditions allow.

Skiers and riders can check the latest terrain openings and conditions at the resort’s Mountain Report.
