Sunridge Ski Area in Alberta, Canada was the victim of an arson attack over the weekend that caused $30,000 worth of damage.

The fire completely destroyed the resort’s new outdoor deck. The deck was built to provide guests with a safe outdoor space to congregate during the covid pandemic.

The Strathcona County Fire Department has confirmed that the fire was arson. A man has been caught on CCTV running away from the area at the time.

Assistant general manager Randi-Lee Hopkins said the act is devastating.

“It’s something that people loved here at Sunridge, so we’re definitely going to rebuild and make the most of this unfortunate situation.”

The resort hopes to have a new deck installed by the time the wedding season starts in August.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is being asked to contact the Strathcona RCMP.
