Winter has landed early in the Valais Alps in Switzerland. With its higher elevations already blanketed by more than 40 centimeters (16 inches) of fresh snow at Lac des Vaux, Téléverbier announced the opening of the 2025–26 season beginning Saturday, 1 November, marking the sweet start of ski season in high style.
Usually, glacier resorts or lower-altitude hot spots get the early-season bragging rights—so it’s noteworthy that Verbier, part of the massive 4 Vallées ski area, is slinging open lifts while many Alpine resorts wait for December.
Nestled in Switzerland’s Val-d’Hérens valley, the village of Verbier sits at 1,500 meters (4,920 feet) and the ski resort rises to a summit of 3,330 meters (10,925 feet) at Mont Fort. The 4 Vallées region links six resorts (Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Bruson, Nendaz, Veysonnaz & Thyon), offering around 410 kilometers (255 miles) of marked runs, served by more than 80 ski lifts. It’s one of the Alps’ top destinations for high-altitude skiing, freeride terrain and après-ski that’s as lively as its slopes are steep.

For those who have been itching to dust off their ski gear, a November visit to Verbier will hit the spot. So what are you waiting for? Bring your gear—and maybe your croissant game.
