Swix has launched a new range of low environmental impact waxes, The Pro Line System. The development will be the highest performing non-fluorinated wax on the market. The new line of fluoro-free glide waxes is a breakthrough for high-performance racing wax. The range is expected to be available in fall, for the 2020-21 winter.

Fluorinated wax contains harmful chemicals known as PFAS or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. The new wax ingredients do not contain fluoro and have been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to comply with the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

This comes after major governing bodies for Alpine, Nordic, Cross Country, and Snowboarding competition across Europe and North America moved to ban fluorinated wax. The move by FIS or International Ski Federation banning fluorinated wax for the 2020-21 season while other organizations are implementing other steps has made the push.

The US Swix CEO Steven Poulin says as the market leader of high-performance ski waxes it is their job to lead the industry away from PFAS, and they have done it with this range.

“Swix has stopped production of all fluorinated waxes in our pivot to environmentally sustainable products.”

The new line will replace the current range of CH, LF, and HF with Pro Performance Speed, Pro High Speed, and Pro Top Speed. This includes both solid and liquid waxes. Swix has taken the last 10-years to research and develop waxes free of PFAS which retain performance at multiple temperatures.
