Southern Italy Breaks 24-Hour Snowfall Record with 100-Inch Storm: The town of Capracotta in Southern Italy is reporting that they received 100 inches of snow in 18 hours on March 5th, 2015. If this is officially corroborated, this will be the largest 24-hour snow total ever recorded. The current 24-hour snowfall record is from Silver Lake, CO when they got 75 inches of snow on April 20th and 21st, 1921. What’s crazy is that Capracotta, Italy isn’t even in the Alps – it’s in Southern Italy. The town sits at only 4,662-feet and has been known to receive enormous one day snowfalls.
