Sneaker Storm: Darting through Drifts on Donner Summit – 03/28/16 After about a week of warm Spring temperatures and a forecast of around 2 inches of cold snow, the expectation of a great day on Monday the 27th of March was near absolute zero. However, a spinning low pressure over the great state of Nevada decided to take a late trajectory toward Donner Summit and boy was the forecast wrong. […] Casey Cane | April 3, 2016 0 Comments
Boreal Conditions Report: Bluebird Pow Days (& Nights) Boreal Mountain Resort had one hell of an opening week. After the first winter storm slammed Tahoe with early season powder last week, resorts all around the lake rushed to be the first to operate. While Mt. Rose boasted “first open”, the magic carpet and accompanying mini park weren’t quite enough to satisfy my six months of powder thirst. Boreal followed suit – but gave Mt. Rose a lesson on “opening day”. For the first time since 2004, Boreal was able to operate top-to-bottom on their first day of the season. Discovering Snow at Donner Pass Resorts – 03/10/14 It was our time to head North. The North Shore of Tahoe to be precise. With a warm storm looming for Monday morning on Donner Pass, it was a perfect opportunity to grab some slushy night skiing turns at Boreal and then shred some Sugar Bowl pow the following morning. Boreal was perfect with warm temps, soft snow, and a glorious sunset. At 7am the next morning, we noticed something strange coming down from the sky…SNOW! By the time the storm was finished, Sugar Bowl received around 6″ at the summit. As I headed to the top of Mt. Boreal, CA May OPEN This Week | ← This Photo From Today… Boreal ski resort in Lake Tahoe, CA is always the first ski resort to open in California. They usually get open in October with jumps and rails and one lift open. This year, it wasn’t looking too good for an October opening. And then it snowed a foot at Boreal yesterday. They are forecasted to get 3-6 more inches of snow today. Boreal has had their snowmaking machines on and they are piling the white stuff up as fast as they can. It looks feasible to open for a day or two this weekend. The forecast gets pretty warm this weekend, in the 60s, so if Boreal opens, it’ll likely just be a one weekend affair… for now.
