chillan avalanche

The Cronica Chillan newpaper is reporting that a 23-year old Viña del Mar, Chile named Luciano Cueneo Olhaberry died today from injuries suffered in an avalanche in the backcountry near the Nevados de Chillan ski resort in Chile. Luciano was skiing out of bounds with a foreigner who was reportedly also caught in the avalanche but escaped uninjured and was able to notify rescuers. Ski patrollers were able to locate the buried skier within 50 minutes. Luciano was not carry an avalanche transceiver, nor probe, nor shovel.
