ADK: Bennies Brook Trip Report

The party is slowly winding down here in the Northeast, and it’s getting to be about last call time for some backcountry spots. So order that shot, drink up, pay up. This is not to say that one more late season storm (ie the weather pattern that blessed us for the better part of January and February) can’t happen and we’re all pulling for it to. But the pow conveyor belt that briefly turned Vermont/New England into the best place to ski in North America for a few weeks last month appears to have shut down with no word on its reopening. So, as we transition to spring skiing and scrape the scraps, there’s still time to get out and check a […]

Ski the East | Tuckerman Ravine Trip Report

After a long, cold and mostly awesome winter, spring is advancing in full force across New England. Approaches are starting to melt out, sunscreen is appearing in my pack, and I even spotted golf clubs in the corner of the gear room the other day. This means the time has come for the annual pilgrimage to the Presidential Range as the calendar turns to April. Three days of exploring, climbing and sliding through the Washington weather show – and mother nature did not disappoint, dealing out an entire season’s […]

Vermont Backcountry | March Madness

TGR’s Mike Hayes brings us to Northern Vermont, shredding lines on VT’s biggest peak, Mt. Mansfield. Vermont has had one of it’s best seasons in years, giving western resorts a run for their money. The snow depth at “The Stake” on the summit of Mt. Mansfield is up to 88 inches, as of March 31. Thats 16 inches above average. Seriously. There’s a TON of snow.

Fenway Park Buried in 3 Feet of Snow

With just two months until opening day, the Red Sox better pray for warm weather. Fenway Park is buried under 3 to 4 feet of snow, following Boston’s snowiest 30-day period in history. While the Red Sox head down to Fort Myers for spring training, Boston will be digging out after another storm on Saturday and Sunday. Huge amounts of snow have made for rare avalanche conditions in snow piles on the streets of Boston. Bean Town has seen almost 72 inches in the span of 18 days, making it the ninth snowiest winter in the city’s history.
