La Parva, Chile Conditions Report: After 51″ of New Snow No new snow since the light snowfall yesterday, but the high clouds broke early, the sun finally came out, and the low clouds hovered menacingly at about the altitude of Farellones. All lifts opened except Nevada (broke motor), with Las Aguilas being the last to open due to avalanche control. The packed base is between 70cm and 120cm, and is fairly evenly distributed. Portillo, Chile Has No Snow, Pushes Back Opening Date to ??? Portillo, Chile still doesn’t have a flake of snow right now. They hoped to open by June 20th, then July 9th, and now they’ve pushed their opening date back to To Be Determined since there is still no snow and no snow in the forecast. Portillo isn’t alone in its lack of snow. Valle Nevado, Farallones, El Colorado, La Parva, and Ski Arpa are all currently without snow. Northern Chile has been experiencing a drought since 2007 and it appears to be continuing.
