CBS News: “Record California Drought Shows No Sign of Easing”

The reason for the 4 year drought is this Ridiculously Resilient Ridge.

93% of California is in a severe drought or worse. This drought has been going on for 4 years. The latest snow surveys are showing the current Sierra Nevada snowpack at only 12% of normal for this time of year. Squaw Valley received only 4″ of snow between December 31st and February 7th. They’ve gotten a meager 140″ of snow on the upper mountain this winter and only 38″ of snow on the lower mountain this winter. Might a “Miracle March” be taking shape in Tahoe? Maybe… We’ll let NOAA do the talking on this one: While some Sierra snow showers will be possible this weekend, the next chance of widespread Northern California precipitation is looking to be at the end of this month or early March.
