17-Year-Old Skier Walks Into Medical Clinic With “Knife-Shaped” Rock Punctured & Embedded in His Helmet A 17-year-old boy was skiing powder at The Remarkables ski resort in New Zealand last week when he crashed headfirst into some rocks. Remarkables, NZ Conditions Report & Photo Tour – Great Start to The North Face Frontier Freeride World Qualifier Opening day of the North Face Frontier, at the Remarkables turned out to be a stunner of a day. All 4 Resorts Now Open in Southern New Zealand Cardrona continues to have the best conditions right now in the South Island. They have been making snow most days and about 80% of their runs are open. The coverage is almost entirely man-made snow and heavy traffic means conditions have become very icy in places. Race Course, All Nations and Gold Rush are especially icy at the moment. Captains […] Conditions Report Marian Krogh | July 12, 2016 0 Comments
Ridiculously Remarkable @ The Remarkables (New Zealand part I) Toward the end of August 2015, a father & son team made the easy journey (if you ride a plane that is) from San Francisco to the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Our plan was to ski the first 4 days between Coronet Peak and The Remarkables and to introduce my son not only to NZ skiing but also to my good ol’ kiwi mates. As with any ski trip, all you can do is hope and pray that the planets will align to provide epic skiing conditions. Luckily, for my son’s first visit, the snow gods granted us superb weather and skiing around the Queenstown area. Casey Cane | November 15, 2015 1 Comment
Remarkables, NZ Conditions Report: Corn, Chalk, & Big Terrain The Remarkables is one of two ski resorts in the Queenstown area of New Zealand’s South Island. They’ve opened with a great base after several large early season storms. The storms have eased now and milder temperatures and sunny days have resulted in some great spring-like conditions on sunnier slopes but chalky snow remains in shaded areas such as the Alta Chutes. The Remarkables will host the Big Mountain portion of the NZ […] Conditions Report Guest Author | July 27, 2015 1 Comment
