Video Proof of the Insane Powder in Chile This August:

chile powder snowboard

This is the movie that won the Veho Film Festival in Chile this August. Chile had one helluva August with a monster storm coming in and dropping over 50″ in spots. These boys were poised and ready to get after all this pow and they did so on some pretty incredible terrain. These lines all look fun, inviting, and rippable – especially in the bright sunshine. Two weeks ago El Colorado and most of Central Chile received their first significant snowfall of the season, finally allowing the resorts to open after a long wait. Despite the first day of winter arriving yesterday, the majority of Chilean ski resorts are yet to get their first sticking snowfall of the season this year. Northern Chile is doing especially poor this season with ski resort giants such a Portillo & Valle Nevado completely devoid of snow right now. “In all my years here, the snow has never taken so long to arrive or the season so long to start.” – Haydee Pereira, 15-year Valle Nevado employee These ski resorts in Northern Chile planned to open on June 20th. Due to the lack of snow, their opening dates are To Be Determined. Chile has been experiencing a drought for the past 8 years. Chile’s […]

2014 South America Recap: Nevados de Chillan and Las Leñas

I spent two months skiing in South America this summer, and it was fun! My trip took me to Nevados de Chillan for two weeks, Las Leñas for a month, and the Cordon del Plata for a week. I’ve been coming down here for nine years now, which makes me feel kind of old, but also very fortunate. The majority of these photos were taken by Moritz Morlok. Thanks Boyscout! I arrived in Santiago in the middle of August. Typically I head straight to Las Leñas, but things were looking a bit dry and warm there, so I decided to go south to Nevados de Chillan instead. I’ve been hearing good things about Nevados in recent years, and it seems to be the […]
