Squaw/Alpine Conditions Report: Just Hanging In There… Yesterday at Squaw Valley was rough. Cold, windy, bumpy, not much groomed, hard, and very little snow. I’d skied Squaw 3 days earlier and it’s amazing how much snow we lost in those three days. The park was holding up well, though. I saw Tanner Hall (at least I think it was him) throwing front flips and 720’s like they were nothing. Shirely lake was skiing OK and Siberia was pretty brutal. Squaw Valley Powder Day Report: Squaw Valley reported that they received 7″ of snow on Sunday night and Monday. The entire mountain was closed, more or less, yesterday leaving us all of Siberia, Headwall, Solitude, Shirley Lake, and Granite Chief fresh for the taking. We showed up at 8:30am, it was mostly sunny, and there were very few people in line for the Funitel. At the top of the Funi, people seemed to chose between going straight to Sibo-Reverse Traverse-Headwall or Granite Chief. We chose Emigrant to Granite and it was pretty great in spots. Lake Tahoe Storm Snow Totals & Photo Tour: We can hear avalanche bombs from our house in Tahoe City. Not a bad sign. It’s also very windy in Tahoe City this morning. NOAA is reporting 40mph winds at the top of Squaw with gusts to 60mph and a temperature of 22ยบF as of 7am. We’re hoping it’s not enough wind to shut down Squaw’s upper lifts, but it just might be… Snow showers, mainly before 11am. High near 41. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
