What an amazing start into the weekend! 30 cm of fresh white goodies fell on Friday during the day. This made the Arlberg sparkle in the sun all weekend – perfect freeride conditions. The Arlberg being the largest ski area in Austria boasts ridiculous amounts of terrain right out of the nearly 100 lifts.

We received the last snow on the 4 th January. Rain left a harder layer underneath that was smooth and made the fresh pow on top fast and fun to ride. The past two days it was mostly sunny and conditions were nice for touring. Zürs, Austria Conditions Report: High Altitude Pow

With none of the lifts running in Zürs and only 3 lifts down the road in Lech, we decided for a tour from the valley (1716 m) to just below the top of the Trittkopf (2423 m), about a 600 m (about 2000 ft) vertical journey. About 2/3 up, we get a glimpse of the possibility for powder turns on the way down. It encouraging, as we encountered many rocks and bare spots up to this point.
