Police in Austria were called to an unusual scene on Saturday morning, December 13, after a car was discovered parked in the middle of a ski slope at the Sölden Glacier, Austria, surrounded by grooming machines and early-morning skiers.

Police officers found a 38-year-old man from Luxembourg behind the wheel and a 40-year-old Belgian in the passenger seat—both fast asleep. According to police report, the pair had driven onto the glacier during the night after breaking through a barrier at the Rettenbach–Tiefenbachferner toll station and continuing up the mountain by car.

In the press releases, Tyrol police stated that the men were located asleep inside their vehicle on the ski slope in the glacier ski area of the resort. When questioned, they told officers it had been their “dream to sleep on the slopes and then start the ski day directly from there with skis.”

Both men were still intoxicated at the time of the police check. The driver’s licence of the driver from Luxembourg was confiscated at the scene. Authorities said the extent of the property damage caused by the incident has not yet been determined, and further investigations are ongoing. The incident comes just two weeks after Sölden introduced a new alcohol-free zone in the village to stem with the increasing problem of unruly drunk behavior by tourists during the winter season.
