When the temperatures drop this winter, Tamarack Resort, Idaho, will be ready. The resort recently announced a massive seven-figure investment in its snowmaking capabilities ahead of the 2026-27 season. The investment includes the addition of state-of-the-art automated snowguns as well as an expansion of its mobile fan gun fleet to help boost terrain coverage throughout the season.
The project’s main phase is installing automated TechnoAlpin TT10 tower guns on Waltz and the full length of Lower Serenity. TT10s can begin operating as soon as conditions allow, enabling Tamarack to capitalize on snowmaking opportunities as soon as they arise. As TechnoAlpin’s latest generation of automated snowmaking guns, each TT10 provides high snow output in a large radius, while individually controlled nozzle valves and updated cooling technology allow the system to operate more effectively during borderline snowmaking temperatures.
In addition to the TT10s, the resort is also purchasing new TR10 mobile fan guns that can be deployed elsewhere across the mountain. The resort can easily bring the mobile snow guns to patchy or otherwise under-covered terrain, helping add snow where it is needed.
In total, the expansion adds snowmaking to more than 20% of Tamarack’s existing terrain. Typically, Tamarack is forced to wait for temperatures to steadily drop below the threshold for snowmaking. With the new guns, however, the resort can take advantage of shorter windows. According to the press release, Tamarack typically experiences around 200 hours of snowmaking temperatures before Thanksgiving, but lugging snowmaking equipment requires crews to transport, position, connect, and operate equipment manually. Now, with more automated guns, the resort can start snowmaking during cold spells that last just two to four hours.
“We’ve always had the water and the cold nights,” Tamarack President Scott Turlington said. “What we haven’t had is the ability to use them everywhere we need to. This investment allows us to take advantage of more of those early-season windows and gives our mountain operations team significantly more flexibility across the resort.”

The decision to add automated snowmaking guns on Waltz and Lower Serenity is a strategic one for Tamarack. Waltz is the main beginner area at the resort, offering a place for beginners to learn their turns and get comfortable on snow. Just last season, Tamarack widened Waltz to give beginners even more space. When beginners feel ready, they can move on to Serenity — a top-to-bottom run tailored to intermediates ready to truly dial in their turns.
Adding permanent automated snowmaking guns to both trails ensures they are adequately covered when snowmaking temperatures arrive. More time making snow means a stronger base on both runs, which can leave them looking healthier and more covered throughout the duration of the season.
In addition to snow guns, the investment also includes the installation of approximately 1,515 feet of ductile iron water pipeline, 1,600 feet of buried electrical cable, six hydrants with above-ground electrical pedestals, and 12 reinforced pits. TechnoAlpin technicians will support the installation projects.
By installing new snow guns and other snowmaking infrastructure, Tamarack is continuing to strengthen its experience by providing more consistent conditions. With new snowmaking to go alongside the resort’s over 300 inches of snowfall per year, Tamarack’s skiers will be able to enjoy more early-season terrain and healthier bases. With the 2026-27 season just around the corner, Tamarack is ready to fire up its snowguns as soon as the temperatures drop.
