While many ski resorts in the West are shut for the season, winter is far from over at Mammoth Mountain, California, where a fresh round of mid-April snowfall is keeping conditions firmly in winter mode.
The California resort reported between 12 and 18 inches of new snow over the past 48 hours. Additional snowfall — up to another foot — is forecast through early this week, adding to an already solid late-season base.

The timing stands in stark contrast to much of the ski industry, where April typically marks the wind-down period. Dozens of resorts across the West have already closed or are preparing to do so, following a season marked by inconsistent snowfall and below-average snowpack in many regions. At Mammoth, however, recent storms have reset conditions and extended the season’s momentum.
According to the resort, terrain remains widely open, with packed powder and fresh snow conditions reported across upper elevations following the latest storm cycle. Cooler temperatures have helped preserve snow quality, particularly on north-facing aspects, while continued snowfall is expected to further refresh the surface.

Mammoth’s elevation—topping out above 11,000 feet—regularly allows this Califorian legend to ski all the way into summer, and this season is proving no different. The resort is currently scheduled to remain open through at least Memorial Day, with the possibility of extending operations further into summer depending on snow conditions.

For those who are looking to extend their winter, Mammoth is the place to go. For IKON pass holder, the resort is offering a special promotion until May 25, giving lodging discounts of up to 33% for pass holders, who want to capitalize on the return of winter-like conditions.
For those willing to chase snow into spring, Mammoth is once again emerging as one of the few places in the U.S. where the season is not winding down — but reloading.
