All good things must come to an end. Despite record-breaking snowfall across the west, the last couple of weekends saw the majority of resorts closed for the season.

These are the resorts in North America still open with lifts turning and scheduled closing dates:

California/Nevada

  • Palisades Tahoe – July 4 (Alpine only, and just weekends through July 4th)
  • Mammoth Mountain – Aug

Utah

  • Snowbird – Closed until reopening June 17-18 (conditions permitting.)

Colorado

  • Arapahoe Basin – June 4

PNW

  • Timberline Lodge, OR – August 31 (summer snow season begins 5/30)

Montana/Wyoming/Idaho/Arizona

  • Beartooth Basin, WY/MT – until the snow is gone!

We’ve no doubt missed your favorite resort or got a date wrong. Please let us know of any errors in the comments, and we’ll update. Get it while you can!

  1. For western resorts, the vast majority of closing dates are pre-determined (usually before the season begins) by amount of skier visits. Many (over half?) close regardless of amount of snow remaining.
Many could stay open into mid-summer on most years.

For the eastern resorts it is generally the opposite. They are far busier (relative to size) and therefore the vast majority operate until the snow is completely gone.

    1. Most ski resorts are restricted by their forest service contract how long they can operate.

  2. Winter Park/Mary Jane will be open As long as possible…. The website has been updated. Looks like at least memorial day weekend
