The East Coast and the Rockies have both experienced a true comeback year, offering skiers and boarders one of the best seasons in recent memory. At this point in the season, four Indy resorts in North America remain open, with a commitment to skiing into May. Let’s be real for a moment…staying open this late is nothing short of a herculean effort. Especially in the East, it takes weeks (often months) of snow management and a willingness to make snow late into the season. Itโ€™s one thing to have the snow and terrain, but itโ€™s another to decide to go for it. They have put dwindling resources to use for the benefit of skiers and riders who want to push forward and avoid the inevitable, sending out the historic snow year with a bang.

These resorts believe that being open matters and are giving their all for their loyal guests. This is the last chance to grab the last bit of winter before itโ€™s gone.

Jay Peak

Jay Peak’s reputation is well-deserved, boasting the most snow in eastern North America and a liberal in-bounds policy that ensures you can enjoy it. 81 trails, slopes, and glades all wait for you, but the nooks and crannies are what really set Jay Peak apart.

Black Mountain

Since 1935, Black Mountain has been at the forefront of community-focused, independent skiing. The mountain was one of the first in the country to offer lift support and is home to the first overhead lift, now known affectionately as the โ€œJ-Bar.โ€ Generations of skiers have discovered their love and nurtured their passion for skiing and community down the slopes of Black Mountain. It is slated to celebrate its 90th Birthday Party and Closing Day this Saturday, May 3, with the biggest party the resort has ever seen. Skiing will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., featuring fireworks, live music, and additional events. $9 tickets will be sold. Don’t miss out.

Loveland Ski Area

Loveland is Coloradoโ€™s true winter wonderland. Just 53 miles west of Denver, Loveland boasts 1,800 acres of remarkable terrain, free snowcat skiing along the Continental Divide, an innovative lesson program, and more snow than any Front Range or Summit County resort. Loveland is home to those who want to ski or ride.

Mt. Hood Meadows

Mt. Hood Meadows operates on a special-use permit in the Mt. Hood National Forest, offering some of the most spectacular skiing and snowboarding in the Northwest. The resort is just 67 miles from Portland, delivering a big mountain experience that you’d expect to travel much farther to enjoy. The resort sprawls across Mt. Hood’s southeast flank: the sunny side of Mt. Hood. Meadows’ terrain welcomes and challenges all levels of skiers and snowboarders.

2024-25 Closing Dates of Remaining Indy Resorts:

Black Mountain, NH – May 3

Jay Peak, VT – TBD

Loveland Ski Area, CO – May 11

Mt. Hood Meadows – May 3
