Cody Townsend absolutely ripped one of the craziest lines in ski movie history in Matchstick Productions‘ 2014 film Days of My Youth. The line, simply dubbed “The Crack,” is located deep in Alaska’s Tordrillo Mountains, roughly 75 miles west of Anchorage. Townsend’s descent became one of the defining moments of the film, showcasing the combination of steep terrain, exposure and precision that has made Alaska the ultimate proving ground for big mountain skiers. The run is as intimidating as it is visually spectacular. Townsend drops into a narrow, extremely steep couloir that cuts through the massive Alaskan face before navigating a series of technical turns and committing sections with little room for error. The line became another memorable chapter in Townsend’s career and helped cement his reputation as one of the world’s premier big mountain skiers. More than a decade later, The Crack remains a standout segment from Days of My Youth and a reminder of just how wild Alaska skiing can be.
