Timberline Lodge, OR, Shuts Down for the Season, Capping Off North America’s Ski Season Early

Ski season has officially concluded at Timberline Lodge, the last ski resort open in North America for skiing and riding. With there no longer being a ski area to provide lift-served turns, ski season across the continent has officially concluded. The Oregon ski area located on Mount Hood typically runs its summer ski season into August, or on big snow years into September, but due to a slow start to the 2025-26 winter and then a historically low snowfall season, the resort has had to shut down its operations on Sunday, July 19.

But the legendary Oregon ski resort known for its long summer slush skiing season, world-class terrain parks, gorgeous sunny weather, and epic good vibes didn’t go out without a bang, with skiers and snowboarders soaking up the good weather and closing day atmosphere. Once it was all said and done, the resort reported 212 days of operation since it opened on December 20, 2026.

At the same time that all of North America’s ski resorts have shut for the summer, the Central Andes of South America have been getting slammed with a historic storm cycle that’s dropped over 15 feet of snow in the past 7 days. Those who feel like they aren’t quite satisfied with the North American winter surely have the chance to make up for it this year in South America. Otherwise, summer will be in full effect until the snowflakes start falling again in November and ski season makes its inevitable return to Timberline and the rest of North America, bringing with it the winter joy that skiers and snowboarders across the planet know and love.
