5-Year-Old Boy Killed by Falling Boulder Near Valdez, Alaska

State Troopers say a 5-year-old boy is dead after an accident near Worthington Glacier, about 30 miles outside of Valdez, Alaska, reports KTVA

According to an online Trooper dispatch, the boy was hiking with friends and family, when a boulder rolled off a ledge, striking the boy in the head around 9:30 am on Wednesday Fourth of July.

Valdez Police, Valdez EMS and the Valdez Alaska Wildlife Troopers immediately responded. Life-saving measures were taken on scene by family members, bystanders and EMS while waiting for air transportation.

The child was taken to Valdez Providence Hospital by helicopter where it was determined the injury was fatal.

Troopers say next of kin was on scene and the State Medical Examiner has been notified.
